Know Before You Go:
- Possibly the most heavily trafficked trail in all of O’ahu, Diamond Head Crater sits right outside the Honolulu city center.
- It was built in the early 1900s as part of O’ahu's coastal defense system. Now it is part of the Diamond Head State Monument covering 475+ acres, including the inner and outer slopes of the crater.
- This is a family-friendly trail and do-able in sneakers. However please note: dogs are not allowed.
- The parking lot is often full by 8:30am, if you are unable to find a space, park in a residential neighborhood nearby and walk to the trailhead. It is not uncommon for people to taxi to the trailhead.
- The $5 day-use fee can be purchased upon arrival via a credit card machine and will be checked upon entry.
- If you are looking for a more authentic nature experience, feel free to skip this popular tourist attraction.
