Know Before You Go:
A dog friendly hike but the talus fields and exposed summit may not be great for some pups.
Shoes with good traction are a must for this trail, many sections traverse over large talus fields which can be a little precarious. Take your time and choose your footing with care.
The trail is well maintained and safe despite some warnings we received.
There is a long dirt road to the lower parking lot; some 2WD vehicles can make it to this lot no problem.
If you have a higher clearance vehicle and wish to drive to the upper lot you will shave about 1 mile off the total mileage of the hike (we started at the upper lot). This road is steep, narrow and rough so proceed with caution.
If you do choose to drive, keep an eye out for hikers making their way up or down.
Bring plenty of sun and wind protection for the summit.
The top is a great spot to enjoy lunch after a tough climb, with 360 degree views and a front row seat to Mt. Shasta.
