Know Before You Go:
- This hike is a must-do when visiting the Kenai Peninsula!
- The paved overlook trail (0.5 mi) brings you to the bottom of Exit Glacier whereas the Ice Field Trail brings you to various mid-way points that are well worth the effort to see 700 sq mi of glacial ice.
- Bring hiking poles for the steep decline and multiple layers for the variable weather; the trail is very exposed and winds can exceed 30 mph.
- Pack a lunch and snacks for the top.
- 40 glaciers flow from the Harding Icefield, but Exit Glacier is the only one you can hike beside.
- Stop by Resurrection Roadhouse for fresh salmon and halibut! Be sure to make a reservation during peak season or plan to arrive right when dinner opens for serving.
